Poker machine open letter handover

As the 2018 Tasmanian state election campaign draws to a close, so does the open letter calling for poker machines to be removed from pubs and clubs.

This letter called for Premier Will Hodgman to confine pokies to casinos and this week, we handed over the final letter and urged the government to listen to their fellow Tasmanians as they passionately and compassionately call for a future free of pokies in pubs and clubs.

In total there were 6663 signatures and more than 1000 additional comments calling for change on the letter – such a groundswell of support is hard to ignore.

Below are just a few examples of why you said you wanted pokies out of your suburbs.

On Saturday, March 3, Tasmanian voters have a choice.

We are now at fork in the road when it comes to poker machines in Tasmania.

We either have them confined to casinos as they do in WA, or we move to a model that mimics the other eastern seaboard states with licences for individual venues creating an array of powerful vested interests and higher levels of harm.

There is no going back once we head down that path.

Let’s not waste this opportunity.
